Vincenzo Joseph claims 2nd career Powerade Title

Vincenzo Joseph went 5-0 in route to his second career Powerade Title. The 152 pound weight class had four of the top 15 wrestlers in the country. Vincenzo is the only Central Catholic wrestler to win a Powerade Title. Joseph secured falls in his first two matches and then won by technical fall in both the quarterfinals and semifinals. The finals featured a rematch of the 2014 Allegheny County Championships against #12 Nationally Ranked Jake Wetzel of South Park. Vincenzo won by decision with a score of 5-3.

Senior Tony Palumbo fell one match shy of placing. Palumbo entered the tournament unseeded and pick up a first round fall. He lost by fall to #11 nationally ranked Cole Walter of Mifflinburg. In the consolation bracket, Tony won his next match by decision before facing off against 2014 West Virginia State Champion and #6 seeded, Trapper Hays from Parkersburg. Tony secured a late takedown in the third period to win 3-1. Palumbo’s tournament ended with a 3-1 loss to #5 seeded and #3 Ranked in the WPIAL, Devin Austin of Penn Trafford.
